Title: broke my mathews
Post by: [Blocked] on September 23, 2018, 07:11:34 PM
   I was in a ladder stand I built and was going to shoot a dry doe. The doe was really close and I was aiming almost straight down. When I released the arrow my bottom wheel hit the stand and my bow flew out of my hand and fell 15 feet to the ground. The fall didn't do any damage but when the wheel hit the stand it bent the wheel and the string came off. I called the local bow shop and they said it could take a few weeks to get a new wheel. That stinks now I wish I would of kept my old bow as a backup.

that had to freak you out. that is the last thing you would expect, it could have been a lot worse

I had a string break before and it tattooed me pretty good

Other than my recurve, which is not set up for hunting, I don't have a backup for my bow either.  With my shoulder buggered up I've been using my x-bow mostly, don't have a backup for that either (I guess my compound is my backup these days, although that's pretty questionable).  I take it that old doe is still running tonight?

Not Sorry to hear you about your bow.  Make sure they inspect your limbs too!  I still have my old PSE bow.  It probable could use a new string but it still shoots good.  Just not as good as my current hunting bow.  Good luck getting it repaired.  Maybe they can express "censored Word" the new cam?

Well DANG!!! That sucks. Glad you didn't get hurt could have been worse. Not having a back up in this day is not surprising to me as much as new bows and X-bows cost most folk can only have one because you usually got to sell the old one to help pay for the new one! Except for Bo he's got a back up for everything he is one prepared guy  @--0--0123 @--0--0123 @--0--0123.

The bow shop doesn't know if Mathews will even make a wheel for my bow because it was made in 2007. My son has a x bow but in Minnesota you have to be 60 years old or have a doctors slip to hunt with a x bow. I hope to know in a couple days if I can get a new wheel, but the bow shop said it could be 3-5 weeks before it would get here.

Sorry to hear about your bow. Did you get the doe? I knew a guy that likes the high end bows. Not sure if he has a Hoyt or Mathews but his back up bow is an exact duplicate of his main high end bow. He apparently has the money to do it but I wouldn't. More power to him! Just fyi, he has a lot of nice big bucks on his wall from Illinois and out west!

i was thinking about this. i would think a company like matthews would have a supply of cams for all their older bows. yours is the same vintage as mine. if they don't come through on this, i would be surprised.

just in case, if your local guy says he can't get a replacement, call matthews directly. some of these local shops just want a new sale. i've had this happen w/ different things. those shops don't get any of my business anymore. they are either lazy or greedy or both

let us know what happens

Don't let the local shop fool you, they make them. When I worked at scheels we could order parts for bows that were made 20 years ago.

   I called the bow shop late last week and Mathews had a cam in stock so I hope to have it by this coming weekend. I have lots of Does and fawns around to shoot.
