Hunting Pic
« on: June 19, 2009, 11:17:03 AM »
Hi new to site.  In 2006 I retired and in same year lost deer lease due to land owner's daughter taking over due to his health and she price me out.   I have hunted all my life here in Texas and have taken some respectable bucks and really enjoyed being with other hunters at the lease. After doing some figuring I started putting my money back and started saving for my dream hunts.  I still hunt in Texas I go on doe hunts for meat and bird hunt (dove, duck and geese) but I have been able to go on two hunts of a life time. The first was too Quebec for Caribou. It took place in September of 2007 with Twin River Lodge. Harvested 2 nice bulls with Rem 700 .270.  In May 2009 went on a Manitoba Black Bear Hunt with Hasting Bros Outfitters. Took 290 lb 6 ft. bear with TC Encore .300 Win Mag.
Thanks for letting me share.

Both were great hunts.  The float plane trip on the Caribou hunt was worth the trip.  In both hunts when I left Texas the temperature was over  90 degrees and it was below freezing in Canada.  It was shock to southern boy.  It so much fun to see different sites.  On the bear hunt kept hearing the ruff grouse drumming.  It sound just like a person having trouble with small eniginee. Before I found out what it was I was hoping who every it was would get that enigine started get out my hunting area, guide got good laugh out of that.

Welcome from MO. Nice pics. Went on my first caribou hunt last August '08 to Alaska with a bow.  Saw a lot of animals, closest I could get was 86 yds. bow only area.

I know how you feel NW. I take a fishing trip to northern Ontario every fall and the scenery and temps are a lot different what what I am used to.  I think everyone needs to save up and take a hunting or fishing trip way out of their element at least every now and then.

It is definately a way to make some great memories....

Welcome to the site from Tennessee. Thanks for posting your trips. I've always wanted to go get a caribou but have not yet. Sorry to here about loosing your lease, greed sometimes gets in the way. She may grow to regret her decision as the new folks just might not take care of things as the long timers did.

What is next. Well since I did not get drawn in NH moose lottery I think a hunting buddy of mine and I are going to try to get selected for Wyoming Pronghorn hunt in 2010. I will go on doe hunt and do some duck goose and dove hunting here in Texas.  My wife and I have anniversary tradition. We find a bed and breakfast in a Texas Hill Country town and I find a day lease near by.  She hunts the stores in town and go meat hunt for does.  We are happy.

Welcome to the site and thanks for sharing the pictures.  Caribou is going to be my hunt of a lifetime someday.  Sorry about losing your lease...that's like a bad episode of Twilight Zone...you finally retire and can hunt all the time and you lose your lease.
