LOUISIANA TURKEY REPORT
« on: March 22, 2009, 07:39:34 PM »
A friend of a friend and I hunted Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Lynn is an experienced turkey hunter and has hunted all over the country. He said that we have some of the prettiest turkey woods he has seen, he is also a forester. He couldn't understand why we didn't see or here any turkeys. I told him that the neighbors are probably feeding lots of corn as usual and pulling the turkeys away. Lynn said he has seen that happen many times. I had one interesting moment on Saturday morning. I was on a food plot with a well used dusting area. At about 7:00 am, I caught movement out to my left. It was a huge owl that was flying in to the dusting spot. Wish I had had my camera ready.

Chipper and one of his friends from St. Martinville, La. came in this morning and made a hunt, they didn't see or hear anything either. I think that we will have a little better luck in a couple of weeks.

Better luck next time, maybe when the turkeys get their belly full of corn they will come around,  @--0--0123  or maybe you need to feed them something they like better than corn  ;D

This was only my second time to turkey hunt, so I really don't know what to expect, but I love being in the woods this time of year. Everything has leafed out and flowers were blooming on everything, just beautiful. It was 52 degrees this morning and 48 degrees yesterday morning. It couldn't have been better.
