Doe Down!
« on: September 24, 2020, 08:34:04 PM »
Once again, I have been blessed beyond my comprehension! I was able to harvest a doe this past Tuesday with my crossbow, after taking a buck on September 11th! I am copying and pasting my story from my Facebook page, Reflections in God's Great Outdoors, where I share my stories with both hunters and non hunters.

When in the hunting world, we often spend a lot of time planning, preparing and plotting on how to outwit the wild game we are seeking. For some unknown reason, we think, based on current events or past experiences, we have them figured out. More often than not, the wild game has us figured out and our plan, however well conceived, doesn't work out. It's all part of the fun in hunting!
That being said, recently a plan did work out for me while in the deer woods!  After harvesting a buck (see previous post) I am also able to harvest a doe during the archery season. However, I have not been able to find a doe that didn't have young ones walking with her and those I simply will not shoot. This all changed over this past weekend when I saw on my cell camera, a healthy, mature doe walking several times by my stand with no young ones anywhere to be found. She had a darker coat of fur and looked mature. So my plan was formed, I would go out Monday evening and try and see if she would come by again. I did have a nice buck and a young doe under my stand but not the one I was looking for. It was getting near dark and did not see or hear any deer coming close so I decided to back out and go home and try not disturb any deer on the way out.
At first light there were no deer to be found! Then at 7:30, A buck, a mom and her two young ones and the doe I was looking for are coming down the trail towards the stand. I knew right then and there, by her body size and fur color that she was the one!
I waited patiently as they all fed and waited until she got in to a good position for a clear shot and took it! She was found shortly after not far away. Another extremely blessed day in the woods!
God has been good to me this hunting season! I am now done for archery deer and must wait until the early muzzleloader season that comes in October. In the meantime, I will be enjoying deer bologna, backstrap butterfly chops, tenderloins and sausage! I can hardly wait!

Congrats yet again BC!  You have two tagged already and our season hasn't even started here.  Hoping to get one in the freezer soon.

Good job, Bearclaw!
I have enjoyed the accounts of your hunts and your giving God the recognition He deserves for all the outdoor blessings that have come your way.
