Pa work camp
« on: August 13, 2020, 10:39:43 AM »
Howdy everyone I just got back from the Pa deer camp work week. Yes work week not weekend. We had some water damage in the bathroom that ruined the linoleum flooring. Thankfully it was removed before the floor rotted. So we primed and painted the floor and part of the hallway with gray porch paint. I was very impressed the the paint ( Lowe's brand) it covered well and seems very durable time will tell. We replaced both toilets with the taller style (we ain't getting any younger) and replaced the sink and vanity top and the shower water mixer. We replaced the on demand hot water with a natural gas water heater and plumb it so it could be drained each time we leave. There was supposed to be some gravel delivered 20 tons to be exact but that didn't happen and I haven't been told why so that will be next turkey season I guess. We got all that work done Friday Saturday and Sunday. Then we shot some rifles and handguns. I had to go to Grice's gun shop in Clearfield to get a new scope and rings for my binky ( model 99 300 Savage). The scope was on it since 1987 and it came out of the case very cloudy so I ran to town and got a new Nikon 3X9X40 BDC scope and Burris rings put on her and she shoots fine now. When I got the scope installed in 1987 it cost me 105.00 scope rings and bases. 2020 it cost me 144.35 for scope and rings and they bore sighted for free. I am ready for deer camp now.

Got to love the work weeks at camp, we did a 5 day work week to replace the back deck due to rotten wood on the underside. All the deck boards were reused. Saved a lot of cash on that deal. The deck is 11 X 12 foot, not bad for a couple of rookies.

Dave, we don't do food plots on public land, the hunters would be on it like flies on poop. The DCNR has put in a few conservation plots around some of the areas where I hunt for the elk, but the deer and turkey like them also, as do all of the hunters that have found them.
