Range Results for 7-24-2020 - Part 2 of 2
« on: July 25, 2020, 08:30:29 AM »
I tried a new load in the Bergara B14 HMR SP (shorty 2) went from a 165/168 gn ballistic tip to a Sierra Pro-Hunter #2130, spitzer front with a flat base on the back....this was because the groups were sort of bad and so I tried the Christensen Arms 308 and it seemed to be a better group than the 2" groups I had been getting...see pix...now they both shoot the same - hopefully !!

Next was the Savage Model 220 Slug Gun in 20 gauge....have tried to other loads (slug ammo) in it a 2.75" Hornady and then tried the 3" Remington Accutips with it 260 gns Barnes....so this time tried the 3" Remington Expanders with it 250 gns Barnes bullet in it....shot OK just as good as the other Remington Accutips...see picture...came home and order 5 more boxes of the Remington Expanders

Hope this helps.....

what did you think about the Hornady's? were they the SST's?

Yari - Tired the Hornady's SST 2.75 inchers in my Savage Model 220, and it did OK but the 3" Remington Expanders did the best...shot the Remington Accutips and the Remington Expanders and the Accutips and the Expanders did the best...both were three inchers and both shot the same....see the range results post eariler for the Hornady....

Remember, I have the Standard Model 220, not fancy, and the Nikon I put on it is a slug BDC as well....I cleaned it when I got home after resting from the heat and humidity....as I did the 308 Bergara HMR SP and the 308 Christensen Arms BA Tactical......

I've seen several threads that say the 220 shoots 3" shells better than 2 3/4". the only reason i'm messing w/ 2 3/4" is for Emily's bear

The guy who got me interested in a 220 put a new stock on his...he had the plain Jane stainless steel rifle and he put a beautiful Laminated gray type stock thumb hole Buick holes on it that he got off of Ebay for around $175..... looks very sharp....give me some ideas....

That is what I am figuring also is that the Savage is made for 3".....the more I shoot it the better the 3 inches look and group....
