Congrats, Mike! Good job! I didn't go out as originally planned, but plan on going monday morning. Yesterday morning was foggy and cold around here. Temp in the morning was hovering around 32f.

I wore my full November deer hunting attire and had the heater running in my blind (I also turkey hunt from my deer blind)   It was only 28 deg when I hit the woods.

I was not freeezing but the older I get the less I desire to be uncomfortable if I do not have to be.   ;D

nice work. looks like a good bird. any good details? congrats

I was running a little behind and they were already gobbling when I got to my spot at 6:20ish (shooting started at 6:18).  I set a hen decoy and a tom with a real fan about 20 yards out.

After a short time I had a lone hen come in from my left.  She came to within about 70 yards of the decoys then turned and went back out the same way she came in.

I kept hearing hens in the woods behind me so I would call frequently.

about an hour after I saw the hen I had a group of about 10 birds pop out of the woods.  These were also to my left, almost behind me.    There were two toms that were strutting all over.  They were about 55 yards out.  I'm sure the gun and load is capable but I have not patterned at that distance and didn't want to risk just wounding one.  Besides the hens kept milling around so I never had a clean shot at a tom without a hen in the way.  They hung out in the same spot for what seemed like forever then all of a sudden they all ran full bore right to my decoys, slowed a bit and kept on going.   I never got a shot while they were in range.

I hunt on the edge of a huge farm field and just in front of me is a large finger of swamp grass that juts out into the field.    It's a low spot that they just work around.   Anything coming towards me from that direction has to walk out into the field to go around it or circle back around through the woods and come from the other side.  This finger is about 100 yards in front of me and is probably 75 yards across.

About half hour to 45 minutes later I see two nice sized toms across the field, on the other side of this swamp area, about 250 yards in front of me.    They hang out there for a short time then work their way back to the right.

Another 20-30 minutes pass and I spot two hens coming across the field right towards me, they opt to walk the field around the swamp area.  As they get to within about 120 yards two toms, I am guessing the same two I just saw earlier come out and head straight towards the hens like they were trying to intercept them from my decoys.

They meet up out in the field and hang out there for a bit.  I know they can see my decoys from where they are so I do a few soft calls.  After a short time on of the tom decides to come and investigate the decoys.  He came in pretty quick and every time he would slow down he went into strut form.  I do not really like shooting a bird when he is puffed up like that so I kept my sights on him and waited.  When he got to the the decoys he circled around them and for a moment stuck his head up.  As soon as he did this I took him.  He hit the ground and never flopped.

Meanwhile the other tom and two hens just kept standing the field watching him.  They finally left and worked their way out to the back corner of the field.    I did not want to run them off, my buddy is hunting the back corner and they were heading right towards him.    He is hunting with a crossbow and they stayed just out of range for him to get a shot.  (He is the guy that got me permission to hunt this farm for both deer and turkey    ;D )

Also during the morning I saw several deer, ducks geese and heard a few cranes.

It was a great hunt and I am blessed to have experienced it.  Walking out with a bird in my vest was just icing on the cake.

great day for sure. sounds like you have plenty of birds in MI. they really seem to be down here in WI. i'm not seeing any while driving. I use to see a lot of birds. the deep snow this year could have taken its toll

We have had a few brutal winters here that seemed to take the numbers down, at least by my personal observation.   This winter was pretty mild so I hope it helps.
