i just got confirmation i got my spring turkey tag 4/15. i'm sure i will get snowed in, but it's fun to chase the 1st season

i also applied the same day for fall bear for me AND EMILY. she wants to shoot a bear! i had to concede to staying in a hotel w/ running water instead of the cabin, but anything to get her back out is good. she has 7 pts and i have 6 pts. she should draw for sure. if i draw, i will hunt w/ her until she is done and then hunt on my own. i don't want her out on a bait alone. bears get too goofy.

i'll keep you posted

Congrats! Sounds like a plan!  You have a lottery for turkey tags there?

BC - we have a turkey tag lottery here in IL (for spring birds), but as long as a given county's quota isn't exhausted, you generally get one if you apply, even in the second lottery.

Yari - that would be awesome if you & Emily could hunt bears together.  Get it on video!  Good luck to the both of you.

i checked remington 1100 slug barrels. they are approx $270 w/o tap and drilling for a scope. most things i've read say DO NOT TAP AND DRILL THIS BARREL. if you choose to, it's approx $100 plus you need special rails. the way i see it, the savage 220 at $00-500 is a no brainer unless emily wants to use open sights.

maybe i will be getting a new gun ##$%#13

Wow, those are hard to find aren't they?  I was looking for 20 ga cantilever scope mount barrels for the 1100, came up empty.  I wouldn't recommend drilling the barrel either, and the receiver scope mounts aren't stellar for holding zero - might be OK for relatively close shooting (maybe 60-70 yards max).

There's a guy here locally trying to sell a lightly used 220 with the one piece rail on it for $500, but that seems high to me for a used one.

mad- I saw a new 220 on Bud's for $417 I believe. it was the base model, but still a great price.

I think fleet farm had them on sale this fall for $100 w/ a scope for about the same price. I doubt it was a great scope

once Emily gets her tag, we will have to see if her 1100 can throw a slug good enough at 30 yards or if she wants a 220. i'm secretly hoping for the 220 @--0--0105 -0078 -0078 -0078

it looks like it's going to be a busy fall. i haven't got confirmation yet, but i checks my preference point for bear and both Emily and i show '0' points. that SHOULD mean we were both drawn. that would be wild. i don't even know if i will buy my license until i get her a bear? she will be priority obviously

i guess that means a new slug gun. @--0--0118 @--0--0118 let me know if you see any deals on a savage 220. probably stainless

it would be my luck i draw an AZ elk tag this year. i just applied yesterday. the seasons would overlap. WE ALL KNOW HOW MUCH OF A LONG SHOT THAT IS @--0--0100 @--0--0100

You can get a saddle mount for an 1100, and it will hold a scope securely. I been using one one my 870 for 20 years without any problems. I believe mine was made by Aimtech.

from what I've read, there isn't enough to anchor into. plus, the barrel for the 1100 is almost as much as the savage 220.
