Season Over!
« on: December 12, 2019, 10:00:07 PM »
Our (Maryland) rifle season ends Saturday and I haven't been out a lot due to family and other commitments. Trying to catch a morning her and an evening there. Lots of night time activity by my stand but not much movement during the early morning or late afternoon. Yesterday around 4:45 I noticed a lone deer come in and start to feed. I put up the scope and it was a buck. Not the largest one by far but I'd like to take another deer for the landowner and his family. They loved the sausage I had done with the last deer so I'd like to keep them supplied this year. if possible. I would also compete the trifecta this year by getting a deer with the crossbow, muzzleloader and rifle. So I am studying this deer for a while and thinking I better make a decision soon or it will be dark. I look for any other deer that might be coming in but don't see any. I watch him again and think this could be the one. The way deer movement had been I might not see another one in the few remaining days. So I take the shot and down he goes! Deer number four for the year and I am maxed out for our season bag limits. I am also incredibly humbled with God's favor on my time in the woods this year. I don't deserve this but I will accept God's blessings any time He wants to give them. This is my first season hunting on this landowner's property and it has been a great blessing!
Yesterday morning the wind chill was 17 degrees, the snow was falling and I am watching several does below my stand. What could be better? It was just awesome being out in God's great outdoors! God even had a Christmas tree for me in the woods as He knows I love Christmas. It is actually a holly bush shaped like a Christmas tree!

That's awesome BC, sounds like one of those magical times in the woods.  Congrats, you're well rewarded for sticking with it!

Congrats, BC! I have taken 3 deer in one season before, never 4. The most memorable was taking a doe with my 12 ga, a buck with my muzzleloader, and a doe with my Henry rifle, with a bullet I cast myself.

Congrats!! I think you love deer hunting as much as I do.
I am working on number 4 now. The buck I got had TB orCWD so I am working on a doe before the end of the year.
Love being in the woods!
