First day 2019
« on: November 16, 2019, 03:29:26 PM »
My first day of Deer Hunting didn't go as planned.  My grandson couldn't go with me and my wife did not want me to go alone due to some health problems this year so she decided to go with me.  It was a last minute decision so we were 40 minutes late to my blind and with it being 17 degrees it wasn't exactly feeling great especially after loading my truck I forgot to load my jacket and all I had was a vest.  My wife, the trooper that she is, let me use her spare jacket which is about 3 sizes too small for me.  it covered my arms and with my vest was good enough for a couple of hours.  we got to the blind and I lit my small heater (Buddy ii) and my poor wife who gets cold easily suffered thru 2 1/2 hours of nothing to see or shoot.  The day wasn't perfect but enjoyable in God's creation.  It was sunny but cold.  Now while sitting in my comfy chair looking out back at the State Park that I  live next to, a doe  and her fawn comes into the back yard feeding on my grass.  I consider this a win day!

It was worth a try, that is, unless you are sleeping on the couch tonight!

At least you got out there, that's more than some do. Be safe and get out there when you are able.

Yes, you had a good day.....I sat in a stand for about 3.5 hours in the morning and 3 in the late afternoon....saw several doe but a couple were on neighboring property we cannot hunt and the others had themselves just far enough in the thick stuff that I could not take an ethical shot.  There was a buck hanging further back in the thicket too but all I got was short glimpses of an antler or rump.....

Yeah for sure - DPD married well!  I wouldn't get my wife out there with me at 50 degrees unless I promised not to shoot anything (never negotiate with terrorists)

That's what I meant about him sleeping on the couch. My wife would not go out with me either. Probably better for both of us!
