Fall Turkey Success!
« on: October 29, 2019, 05:34:27 PM »
This morning at 7:45, I was blessed to be able to harvest my first fall turkey! I am at a loss for words for this season of favor in the woods from the Lord! I just want to give thanks and glory to Him first and foremost!
We are in day three of Maryland's fall turkey season. On Saturday, I hunted a field area where I had seen turkeys recently but saw nothing that morning. On Monday I decided to go on the flats above me and see if I could see or hear any turkeys but again noting. I had a plan to hunt different areas of this property until I could hopefully locate some birds or find where the flock went that was seen recently.
Today, day three I decide to hunt an area out from my tree stand in an area that I thought I had heard a single turkey clucking and yelping while I was bow hunting deer. Whatever it was, it didn't talk very much but thought it sounded like it may have been a turkey.
This morning at 7:30 I did not hear anything but decided to do some calling. i did some yelping and clucking and decided to do some purring and clucking. As soon as I put the calls down to listen, I heard a turkey yelping and clucking probably within 40 yards over my right shoulder. I yelped a few more times and before I know it, I see a hen coming in to the decoys. At 7:45 AM, I have harvested my first ever fall turkey! I am completely overwhelmed by God's grace in my life.

She was closing fast and close so I couldn't look to see if there were any others. We have been missing a flock of around fifteen lately. She seemed to close the distance pretty quick so who knows for sure? Maybe the flock was there.
