Doe Down Again!
« on: October 19, 2019, 07:18:15 PM »
This was the third and final day of our early season muzzleloader. Around 7 three does came in but still to dark to pick out if they have any substance and maturity. They leave and five more come in. Three fawns and a good looking doe and the bigeest doe (assume momma) stayed out hidden b the trees as the others fed. I had my eye on this one and kept bringing the scope up to check her. It had a longer snout and kept whipping her head up every five seconds to look around. Looked good so I take the shot. As usual, when the muzzleloader goes off and no breeze, you are pretty much trying to find which way your deer went in a fog. Deer flew everywhere and I didn't have a clue once the smoke cleared. Looked for blood and none so I just stood there looking around trying to determine which way to head and look for blood. As I am scanning the scenery, I see her down straight out from the stand and it turned out to be around 45 yards. I may be getting older because she was heavy dragging! Probably weighed as much as the buck I killed earlier but this time my friend was away on business and couldn't help with the drag. She was down at 7:30 AM and then yes, I had my cup of coffee and it sure tasted good!

BC's deer herd is definitely going to learn to associate the smell of coffee with danger . . . .

I love the taste and smell of coffee while sitting in a treestand! Something about being outdoors and feeling that coffee go down and warm the innards! But the deer, now that's another story! From now on, the thermos stays in the backpack until after the morning hunt! Every time they smell the coffee, one of them disappears! Go figure! lol

I always take coffee when I go hunting. My wife just bought new 16 oz insulated mugs.
