Sometimes My Awesomeness Wears Me Out And I need To Lie Down
« on: October 18, 2019, 02:00:00 PM »
I put a camera up on the north end of our 10 acre property over the weekend, it's about 150 yards from the house.  I typically get at least one nice buck picture out there each fall, as that area is part of their "nighttime loop" that they travel, and I often see the very same bucks there that I see on the property I bowhunt about three quarters of a mile away.  I pulled the card today and found 140 pictures of this dude in the span of about 90 minutes.  He came in and laid down in front of the camera, then stood up again (I'm guessing it was when I went out to the barn to do something) and then laid back down again.  He has a very similar rack to a deer I was seeing last year, but taller and wider.  He has a forked brow tine on his left and a couple of stickers on his right G2.  If I see him in the daylight I'll probably have to think about taking the safety off . . . .

And yeah I know, I hung my camera upside down.  Didn't notice that until I was done and by then I just didn't feel like untying everything to take it back down and then getting it realigned.

Was out checking on some small trees this afternoon and fertilizing some of them, when I happened to look over and see a nice shed on the ground.  Would love to find the right side but no luck yet.  This was on the back side of my pond, about 120 yards south of the house.  This is the left antler off that nice buck who laid down in front of my camera last fall, about 250 yards north of where I picked up this shed today.  Got my tape out and pulled up an online B&C scoresheet, used one of my nicer racks to line things up and estimate spreads - if he was perfectly symmetrical (he's not as you see in the trail cam photo) he'd score about 152 and some change.  Tried to hold the antler in the second picture at the same angle as the trail cam shot so you can compare the two.  G2 was 14".

I saw that buck one time this year, and it was at night.  He was out about half a mile to the west with several does in a cornfield that had just been picked.  I just got a brief look at him as we drove by.  Never saw him in the daylight but did get pictures of him on several different nights out in front of the barn.  Would be cool to see what he looks like this fall, assuming he survives.
