Tick protection...update!
« on: August 14, 2019, 07:51:43 AM »
Several years back I started using Gordon's Goat and Sheep spray on my clothing for protection of ticks, seed ticks and chiggers. I purchased it from Tractor Supply for around $12 a gallon. I've been unable to find it the past few years.

This brings us to Permethrin 10 which is sold at Tractor Supply. This product works great but must be mixed with distilled water. One ounce of Permethrin 10 with 19 ounces of distilled water or six and a half ounces to a gallon of distilled water will give you the 0.50 solution needed. The Permethrin 10 is an petroleum based product and will remain in your clothing for one washing. Really good produce take the necessary precaution when hitting the woods in early spring and late summer and fall....happy hunting!

Yes - Split Toe is right, I use to use flea collars around each ankle and a piece on my backside and a piece pinned to my I use the Goat Spray with Permethrin still have about half gallon left over but will find the Permethrin 10 and use as Split Toe recommends. He is usually right, 99.9% of the time! Thanks for the recommendation....

I will spray the clothes that I will bring down to the Work Weekend early next week, let them dry and go from there, put them aside for the trip down.....

Thanks again Split Toe......

The Permrthrin 10 can also be put into a "Ortho Sprayer" and douse your yard, dog kennel area, etc to keep down the ticks and fleas.  If you read all the instructions that come with it you can mix a dog dip with it.  I just use it on the mixture recommended for yards, barns, etc in the sprayer and the Beagles get a soak down with it that was a couple times a summer......been using it for years and works great.

Never thought about mixing it for myself and using it on my hunting (and fishing) clothing.  Thanks.
