The drought is over!
« on: July 11, 2019, 10:15:30 PM »
After what seemed to be endless time spent looking out for woodchucks in my yard, finally one ventured out.  It stuck around long enough for me to run downstairs to the basement, find my Axis, run back up, get my shoes on, and go out the garage door.  From my shooting position, I was able to spot the chuck in spite of facing the western sun.  Got settled down, moved the crosshairs slightly, and squeezed the trigger.  Chuckie dropped instantly at about 50-55 yds away.  Funny how they all seem to like that spot.  The 55 gr spire point hit it just slightly left of its chin and exited about 3 inches behind the right front leg.  I noticed it had a tick on its chin.

Bo, when I see a woodchuck in my property, quite often they come out pretty much at the same spot, which is 50-55 yds away.  Sometimes, they do come out in a different spot, and those shots are generally about 65 yds. I have used 22rf, 223, 45LC and 308 on the chucks. IMO, the 22rf is marginal for chuckies. Shot placement is key.
