Pa Turkey camp-2019
« on: May 07, 2019, 12:00:20 PM »
I got back from camp last Thursday been busy since so here is my late report. Cold and windy first day couldn't hear a gobble unless you were standing next to the bird. Eased up some Monday no birds close they were henned up bad 2-3 gobbles on the roost and gone. On Tuesday we hunted a farm same thing couple of roost gobbles then nothing left there and went back of our camp at 10 am my buddy headed up to the top heard a gobble off a ways but on the camp put the march on him killed him at 10:45am His girls finally left him. 19 lbs 101/2 in beard 11/4 spurs great 3 yo bird. Wednesday same gobble fly down to hens. I was working the bottom of the camp my other buddy the top. 10:15am Boom He scores 18 lbs 91/2 beard 1 1/4 spurs another 3 year old. Thursday I going to hunt until it rains hard then we are headed home to hunt on Friday. went to a nice to listen- foggy as heck, cloudy. So at 6:20 I thought I heard a half-hearted gobble I called nothing. I called every 10-15 minutes just clucking and purring until about 6:50 that's when I heard PUTT PUTT PUTT!!! no way I got busted. So I am looking looking to my left though the thick stuff and I see him at 25 yards just Puttin' away I can tell it's a male bird but nothing else. I look through the old Pro-Diamond and see his head through a softball sized hole in the brush Boom!! confusion as the puttin' bird still puttin' now jogging away had a chance to shoot him in fact I got him lined up when heard flapping to my left- dead bird but not the gobbler- you know the story he brought JR along and he got whacked Jake down 4 in beard- he did weight in the double digits that's all i got say about that. So I get back the porch at 7:15 happy hang my bird on the hook and boom 2 birds gobbling on the hill!! So we made history 3 spring birds off the camp  for the first time and we left 1 scared gobbler and 2 more sounding off when we left. Great turkey camp- now I got work on my 2 Md tags ;D

That old tom trotted away laughing rather than putting - he managed to get "Little Jake" to stick his head out first & see where those ladies were!   Doggone gobblers are amazing critters - congrats!
