Deer Season in Pa
« on: April 10, 2019, 07:42:22 AM »
HARRISBURG, Pa.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission has officially moved the first day of rifle deer hunting season to the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This sucks for me and my Md buddies we either have miss the first day in Md or Pa. I guess we will make our decision at turkey camp. I happy for my Pa buddies they get 3 Sat to chase deer so good for them. The tradition of hunting Md on Sat traveling to Pa camp on Sunday and hunting the first day Monday is over.

I'm glad they made the change, it gives us one extra day of rifle season. All the diehard archery hunters are crying about it and saying that we will kill off all the deer in a couple of years, and then there are all of the alcoholics who are crying about ruining their trips to camp and partying for 3 days before the Monday opener. It actually saves me about 16 hours of driving time and gas money going back and forth home from camp after bear season. I can eat turkey at camp if I want to, and we usually do anyway while bear hunting.

When I lived in Pa I looked forward to the opener on a Monday. We drove up to  Potter County on that Saturday , settled in at camp. Saturday night out with the boys having  and using Sunday to get ready for o-dark-early. I did have to take time off from work and not everyone could do that. By Tuesday, rifle hunting was over for all intents and purposes.
The new Saturday opener may take away from the pre-game  festivities . I also think there will be more rifles afield on that Saturday and shorten the hunting opportunity time a lot.
Once the rifles begin, the deer vanish
