200 lb boar
« on: April 03, 2019, 08:26:26 AM »
My brother and one of his friends came out from KY to hog hunt the past few days.  They hunted in the evenings with their rifle and nights with my rifle with the thermal scope.  The temperature dropped 15-20 degrees during their three day stay which seemed to disrupt the moving patterns of the hogs.  Regardless, my brother connected on this 200 pounder.  The next morning around 6 AM his friend connected on a hog which we could not find.  The last evening of their stay my friend the game warden wanted to go and took us to one of his spots.  The thermal scope has wi-fi so I charged up the tablet and took it along.  As the person with the gun was scanning/hunting the other three of us watched it all on the tablet.  We didn't have any luck but saw armadillos, deer, opossums and rabbits.  We had a great time and I think I'm going to start getting the thermal out on a more regular basis.

That's a pretty good boar, glad they got to see some action.

What thermal scope did you buy?

yari - We didn't shoot anything. Armadillos can be shot year round and yes they are varmints.  Opossums have a season and it is not in right now.

Mad - It is a Pulsar Trail XQ38. When the wi-fi is activated all functions of the scope can be controlled with the phone/tablet (zoom, record, change white hot to black hot, etc.).

I forgot to add, as I was heading to the back 40 this morning to cut trails thru the woods, two coyotes were feasting on the hog.  They nonchalantly walked away as i got closer on the tractor.  I forgot he was even back there or I would have looked before heading that way.

Sounds like you might need to make another trip back there with the tractor, but this time have a rifle in hand.
