Suburban Bucks
« on: November 30, 2018, 02:23:09 PM »
I thought I would start a new thread.  Yari asked about huge suburban bucks in the Atlanta area. Yes its true.  There are P&Y and B&C bucks killed every year.  The three counties that make up metro Atlanta are the state’s top producers of quality bucks per sq mile.  What’s amazing is they do not produce a lot of deer. However they do produce quality deer.  Here is the year-to-date data for total deer harvested 2018 season and deer population:
DeKalb; 86 Bucks, 62 Does, Deer Per Sq Mile .55
Fulton; 490 Bucks, 400 Does, Deer Per Sq Mile 1.67
Cobb; 143 Bucks, 108 Does,  Deer Per Sq Mile  .73
For comparison the county we (Butts County Sportsman Club) hunt is a rural county with a good deer population:
Monroe; 686 Bucks, 449 Does, Deer Per Sq Mile  2.85
As the data indicates people are hunting isolated pockets of timber.  Many of these deer are able to survive and reach full maturity.  I had a contractor who harvested the #4 buck in DeKalb Co.  He killed it on a 10 ac track next to a creek. It does not take much land for a deer to survive.

There are a couple of guys that have taken some great deer and video taped their hunts.  They are on youtub  "Seek One Productions".  Those are some monster deer they have harvested.  Plus they do a great job with their video.

OK Bo I will share my picture HOWEVER I will not disclose the location.  This is my pet.  He needs to get bigger.  It is an urban deer that is unhuntable.  He is located in one of those places that if someone tried to hunt him they will be arrested.  So he is my pet.  I get to watch him. Enjoy

Oh man Deerhead, he's a tank.  Even though you can't hunt him, are you able to get out and search for his sheds?

Yes  deer per sq mile.

that is really low for both metro and the hunt club compared to WI. we are double digits/ sq mile

I heard there is a BC running around my office in the city. my buddy is guessing 180". the guy in charge of the city hunt is a real tool. i'm sure he 'reserved the right to hunt him. I still haven't seen him

Yep, I lived in N. Fulton. Near  Shakerag Elementary. Neighbor had a few acres, his dad had a small 100 or so acre farm next to the school and the farm backed into to the Chattahoochee! When I caught people illegally dumping appliances and such on their land, identified the bad guys to the Police, they decided I was a good yankee. It was a great place until they sold off the farm for a developers MacMansion development. Could not blame the family, developer paid them a lot. It was great while it lasted.
When Hale Bop Comet went overhead we went out on the farm at night and took some great 35mm photos ( pre iphone, SD card days - I know, I am dating myself --099-780)
If you can find a suburban spot, cherish it!

Be sure to watch Seek One Productions videos on Youtube.   These deer were all shoot in metro Atlanta.  They shot some true monsters.

The deer per sq mile use to be estimated at 40. We now have to report our kills online.  Records are now more accurate and posted online for all to see.

deer- I've seen the seek one guys before. they shoot some toads. I always get a kick out of them when they track deer at night w/ their cell phone lights. it seems to work, but i'm sure they cell phone lights aren't as good as a maglight or similar

N. Fulton was good but S. Fulton near the airport rocked!
