Funny how no one seems to know where property lines are....

Everyone has permission from the landowner, that they got way back when but they cant even remember his name....

My buddy caught a guy in his tree stand once and the guy wouldnt leave.  Amazing how fast he got down when the chainsaw came out

Everyone has excuses.

I would be mad too!  Caught a kid stalking through a cedar thicket once while I was hunting.  When I confronted him he said he was looking for a deer he had just shot.  I had been there for hours and not a single deer moving through that area. They have to make up these lies ahead of time just in case they are busted.  If you have a good relationship with the landowner you can talk to him and he can talk to the other landowner.  He could press charges against the trespasser as well.  Be leery though, lots of times landowners do not want to have bad relations with their neighbors so he could simply tell you to stop hunting on his property as to not rustle feathers with his neighbor.  Best of luck with the situation, Dave!

Paint the trees on the line and put posted signs up.  He'll get the message or call the law.

Yeah, he didn't know where the line is and yet I would assume he knows he didn't put up the very stand he was sitting in.  As kingben stated, you have to be careful not to create a feud between landowners but nonetheless you need to tell your owner what's going on.

Mad, I had the same thought about the stand. I had a rule when I was an office manager in various doctor's offices. The rule pertained to food in the refrigerator. Simply put, if you didn't buy it or bring it, then it's not yours. Same with the stand. He didn't buy it, he didn't bring it so it's not his and has no business being in it. Period.

A friend of mine handled this issue another way, years ago. He was easing up to his stand for an afternoon hunt and saw a guy in his ladder. He eased up pretty close behind him and fired his rifle in a safe direction. the guy jumped and shouted 'what are you shooting at?'. my buddy answered "I thought I saw a deer but I dont see real well."

He never had that problem again....

Dave, as a good will gesture to the landowner and to benefit you as well, you might want to offer to post the signs for him or with him.

I talked to him about posting his land and he said anything I need to do to keep me safe while up there hunting he is a great neighbor I have watched his house when he has gone to AZ for the winter before

Sounds like a great situation Dave when neighbors are focused on helping each other and looking out for each other.  Sadly that's not always the case.
