Maryland Opener
« on: November 24, 2018, 07:42:08 PM »
Western Maryland was greeted with a winter storm warning this morning. Weather advisories to stay off the roads with a number of cars in ditches etc. But I was out in a tree 15 feet up with freezing rain, high winds and snow. Didn't last long though. Finally went home to take a hot shower and dry off everything and regroup to hunt another day!

You guys out east probably have more ugliness heading your way.  Just started snowing here about an hour ago, we're supposed to get 4-8" tonight.  Sent all the kids home yesterday after lunch so they didn't have to drive in the slop today.  Sounds like my daughter at Iowa State missed the storm entirely.  My son in Kansas City area only got a couple of inches.  Other daughter was driving east - storm hasn't caught up with her yet.  Heavy winds here tonight - gusts to 45 - lights are flickering a bit, we may get to see how that new automatic generator setup works this evening.  Be safe!

I heard 66 mph gusts in KS and blinding snow. snow has to hurt at 66 mph. 30 mph feels like needles. what would 66 mph feel like

everyone be safe

We have a winter weather storm watch here from 1 am to 1pm monday, winds up to 35 mph and 4-6 " of snow.  Somehow the forecast doesn't seem to materialize as predicted but time will tell. I'm planning to go out in the morning.

And it continues. Tomorrow should have snow showers with 18 mph winds. Our deer don't move much in that.

Bearclaw I feel your pain, with nearly 3 weeks in camp, one for bear hunting and two for deer and nearly 1 million acres of public land to hunt, about 90% of the back roads were not accessible by vehicle with nearly 24" of snow and ice. Walking in the woods was a task for us older folks and that was just for bear. When the deer season opened we had nearly 28 hours of rain and then freezing rain. For the most part all backroads were still impassable, and many blocked with vehicles that made the attempt without tire chains to compensate for the snow and ice covered mountain roads. With all that being said we did manage to harvest a couple of PA deer. By the way, we still had a great time in camp with the guys and we ate well.
