Harvested a nice buck
« on: November 18, 2018, 01:34:47 PM »
Finally getting around to posting pictures of the buck I harvested last Saturday. I had to work for this one a little, I hunted several stands saw small deer and does but no shooters. Was starting our annual hunting week, got to camp after coming off shift around noon Thursday . Hunted that evening with no sighting, hunted Jap51 tower the next morning saw a medium size doe. Things were looking good. So after lunch I went to check another stand I had in the woods that no one new exactly where I had it located. On the way I began to see several scraps and a nice rub. So I surveyed the area a little more. I made the decision to relocate the stand to a better vantage point. When I came back to camp I decided not to hunt this stand for a day or so to let things settle down. I hunted it Monday morning and got busted by two nice does. Had to leave the next day to work a shift at the fire station. Came back on Wednesday to rain for the next two half days, Dr Drip (DutchHunter) sent us a present. We made a pilgrimage to Bass Pro one of the rain delay days. Saturday morning it was very crisp and a beautiful day until around 7:30 when the same two does busted me again. I was beginning to think my relocation was in the wrong spot. Then all of sudden a little around 8:00 I hear the distinct grunt of a deer coming up from behind me. I'm thinking it was a sneak attack so I get situated in the stand to turn and there was what looked like an eight pointer, so the heart starts pounding hard. I had put out some doe urine and this buck was smelling something when he came in. I pulled my rifle to the shoulder and became part of the tree, looked through the scope. This was a big bodied deer so I had to make a decision to take the deer or not. The buck started to walk off I finally made the decision and pulled the trigger this buck dropped in his tracks. I pulled the binoculars to look at this buck when I heard another noise. It was another buck came within five feet of this downed deer. This deer was a tall spike with a kicker about half inch long on his right horn. The spike browsed around and watched the buck laying on the ground. I watched the spike circle this buck four times before he walked off to be seen a few minutes latter by one of the other guys George. The deer I harvested was a nice seven point buck that field dressed around 165 to 170 pounds.

We have a very good meat processor Ernest Thomas been a butcher for over thirty years and right down from him is Casteel Taxidermy he has one several awards. He has done mounts for duck dynasty folks birds are his specialty. He did the euromount for me he can turn those pretty quick. Dropped off on Saturday and picked it up on Wednesday.
