If WV and I fly to Minneapolis I am trying to figure out things to get pricing info...

When would we need to arrive in Minneapolis?

When would we need to schedule the return flight?

good question. if you can get here by the the morning of 3/9, i can pick you up. then we would wait for mad and leave from my place.

as far as leaving, plan on 7-8 hours on good roads from the lake to the airport w/o mpls traffic. of course, the basement and air mattresses are open if you need to sleep over

Yari, I intend to drive up, just let me know when you need me to be there.  If it's more convenient keep in mind I could grab the guys from the airport then bring them wherever it's convenient to meet you.

And HM/WVW, if you choose to drive up there's certainly room for some sleep and a shower at my place.

mad- you would have to drive past my place to get to the airport. plus I know the route. it wouldn't make sense for you to do it, but thx for the offer

we will figure it out. it's no problem

what do you have for a vehicle? I have a RAM 1500 but the back would be very cramped for a 7 hour drive. if you have something bigger we could use, great. if not we could take my truck and another

Yari - currently driving a 4WD Suburban which would work well for the crew, lots of room especially with the back seats out.  Have been shopping for a pickup but at the rate I'm moving I'll probably still have the 'burban by then.

nice rig. we will figure out the details later. good to know what we are working with. we could all drive together w/ a burb. we may have to pack a bit better if we take a single rig, but it's doable.

should be a great time. thx

I went ahead and grabbed a medium weight 26" spinning combo at Bass pro the other day and can bring an extra couple of reels.  Can certainly haul up anything you can think of that we might need to survive in the wilderness up there.  --099-780

Also have a local guy selling a couple of used flashers for $25 each complete with transducers if needed, one hummingbird and one lowrance.  While doing some research on those I learned Garmin sells a nice little portable unit (Striker4) that is highly regarded.  My son works for Garmin so I can get a 40%+ discount, tempted to pick one up.  Yari has no idea how much hot water he's into with my better half/budget department/warden for suggesting this outing!

mad- i'm glad the war department is a safe distance away @--0--0105

I found a couple older reels that would work, but they are bigger than I would like. i can bring them if we need them though

remember to take all the tags off your new toys. you don't want to be 'that guy' that shows up w/ all the latest gear and tags hanging off --099-780

if you do get the garmin, make sure to get the summer conversion kit if you vertical jig in the summer. the war dept will like your thriftiness @--0--0105

Nah, I'll show up looking like Minnie Pearl, tags dangling everywhere.  They'll identify the newbie coming before I cross over from Iowa I'm sure, especially with the illinois plates (you're not from around here are you son)

mad- i was thinking about the 26" combo. i personally like a 30-32". you'd be surprised, but the feel is a lot better. if you already have it spooled, it will work just fine. if not, i believe they sell for approx the same price. i would exchange it. you will be happy in the long run

HM- if you do plan to fly, try to avoid the rush hours in the AM and PM if possible. the 494 hwy can be a parking lot. no sense making a long trip longer

hit me up w/ any other questions

Thanks for the advice Yari - if I get back over there I may just swap it out.  I was just thinking shorter would be better if we have four of us fishing in close quarters.   I believe the one I grabbed was a medium/light setup, I recall they had a 28" medium weight, don't recall that they had anything longer.  You're probably not surprised to learn that ice fishing gear isn't all that much in demand down this way!
