Welcome Volman79 from SW PA, I'm not familiar with that area but there are some folks from TN on here from TN that may be able to help you out. BoBolistic is from the Knoxville area. Stay tuned, and good luck to you both.

Welcome, and good luck with the hunt!  I have not done any hunting down there but would suggest giving the Kentucky DNR a call to see if they have advice on where to set up, harvest reports from recent years, etc.  Even if they can't answer you directly they can probably point you to some good resources to consider.

Volman,
Just doing a little reading on LBL, it sounds like the deer numbers are down recently as a result of a habitat shift (more mature timber) and increased predation from coyotes (somewhat connected to the habitat issue).  Might be worth looking through all the satellite views & find some pockets where there's a good mix of edge cover & new growth, as those areas are likely to carry a higher deer density on average than those which are more thoroughly covered with mature forest.  This article is a good read:

Wow,that's a great article.  Makes sense,we've not tagged a deer the last 5 trips to LBL.  It's bout a 6 hr drive from here.  Still fun times. Hunting with your dad and nephew is priceless

Yep, agree with that for sure Volman - but hanging a tag on a deer would still make for some nice frosting on top of that cake!  -00-9    I definitely miss being able to hunt with my dad, but will get the opportunity this weekend to hunt with brother in law and nephew - as you said, getting a deer on the ground is not essential to a great time.

Look at a topo map, find a place with saddles on top or funnels. I used to always hunt the toos as less h7nters were willing to get in way before dark and hump up the mountain
