9 PT Down
« on: November 12, 2018, 12:25:37 PM »
Just got back from our ten days at BCSC.  Although Dr Drip paid a visit in spirit with lots of rain it was a great time at camp.  The good news is I finally scored on a real nice 9pt. I could not have been successful without my friends.

Hunting is about the friendships and the journey we travel as we share camp.  Celebrating each other’s successes and lending a helping hand.  It’s my extended family, my second home. We spend weeks together each year, working, playing, socializing.  We share every aspect of our life.  We share more about life at deer camp than we do anywhere else.  We learn what to expect as we age, during our next physical, next urologist appointment!  Oh I am not looking forward to that!  You just might be surprised what one can learn around a camp fire.  Oh yes the jokes are funny too. Especially when Sonny is at camp. LOL

After years of searching and waiting for a quality buck.  Looking for deer sign.  Scrapes, rubs, trails, acorns.  Moving numerous deer stands to find that perfect spot.  Hunting the hardest place on the land to get to. Parking the ATV and walking long distances so not to scare the deer.  Climbing high in the tree. Being scent free as possible!  Playing the wind.  Using only Whitetail Institute seed, Scent’em, Buck scrub’em, Mossdog’em…  Trying everything I finally scored on a 9pt!  It’s been 5 years “to the day” since I pulled the trigger on a deer.  I have passed on countless bucks waiting for that big buck to walk into my zone.  This 9pt will find a place in my living room for years to come.

I have passed on some nice deer hoping they will make another year and become that mature buck we all dream about.  Well patience and good fortune finally paid off.  He may not be a front cover magazine deer but he is one that I will be proud of forever.

Thanks Cobbguy & Bo for helping me get him out of the woods and back to camp!

Well done Deerhead - patience does indeed pay off (although I'm sure a time or two in those 5 years you were wondering when that payoff would happen.)   Congratulations!

Yes, Deerhead works hard and can keep secrets...nobody knew he was onto a deer until we heard the shot and got a text from him that he needed help...Boy was he deep into the woods. The gang got there and it was a hard getting the deer cross the deep creek and wouldn't you know it that the guys helping him at night neither one of us had a good knee to stand on....but we worked hard to get the deer onto Deerhead's ATV....took about 3 hours to get him out, field dress him and to the deer cooler.....

It turned out to be a nice buck, a real nice buck...cannot add to what Deerhead has already said about the deer...he was a quality buck....congrats...Deerhead....

Metalman got a big body 7 pointer this past weekend and him and Split Toe took it too the cooler.....don't know too much about the details but Jap51 said that he had was a bigger body than Deerhead's deer....will let Metalman tell the story on his deer.....

Had to leave Sunday Morning and drive back here to TN.....it rained and rained down there.....and it is probably raining now....

Very nice buck Deerhead.  You never know, that may have been one you passed up over the years.  It is certainly a risk you take when hunting for a mature deer, you tend to eat more tags than venison!  Congrats once again.

Congrats Deerhead on a fine buck, I'm truly sorry that I could not make the trip this year to share in your day of glory. Circumstances just couldn't let me get there. I am sure that Dutch had his voodoo rain cloud full of pins over GA, that's just how he rolls.  --099-780 I'm sure you have already picked out that spot on the wall for this stud of a deer. I have always said the hunt is more about family and friends and the time spent together than the harvest. I sure missed everyone this year but had you all in my thoughts. Congrats again  ##$%#11
