Big buck no luck
« on: November 05, 2018, 07:50:02 AM »
I finally got to hunt yesterday evening with the Xbow. i got in my stand at 2:30pm it was warm an dthe deer weren't moving until about dark. At 5:10pm A big 8 pt steps around the corner of the field walks out standing at 40 yards. I didn't have to look long and I was already settled in the scope. He moves forward some and is quartering away 43yds I am on him whoop!!! I hear the arrow hit he takes off and runs 250 yds through the soybean field and turns into the woods. I climb out right now- no arrow no blood ???  My buddy gets there after it was dark he can't fing any blood so we walked down the field edge looking as we going. I knew the buck had went in the woods about 100yds past our goose blind. Well my buddy found blood at the edge good blood bright red. It had been a hour since the shot so we went in blood everywhere i am feeling good. Then it just big drops then a big blood clot and spray on the trees-- then just big drops. We tracked him for 1/2 mile and found out he went in the marsh- a big deep tidal marsh. So we had to quit- no waders- My buddy said he was going in there today and find him of course it has been raining all night  :( I had to work so I could not help him- He is one good friend to go in the marsh without me  --9-908 --9-908 The hard part is no knowing what happen- I assume he took the arrow with him and it is still in him or he kicked it in the soy beans some where- I aimed at his third rib and it should have been a pass through and maybe it was but I didn't find the arrow ?? Hopefully good old Mike will find him so I can get the story- The meat probably won't be any good but at least I'll know. Nice buck I am feeling right low today.

Sorry to hear that BT - it's a sick feeling for sure, been there.  Hopefully your buddy will have some luck - really crazy how much blood some of those deer can lose & still keep going.  Being that you didn't find any blood in the bean field, do you think you might have hit him high?  I did that with my muzzleloader a few years ago, the buck probably only went 200 yards but I was tracking at first on my hands and knees only finding little specks, then started finding more once I got within about 50-60 yards.  Seemed like the blood was filling the chest cavity until it got high enough to start blowing out.  Hope you can get him before the yotes do - meat might not even be gone if you had a cool night - who knows.

I suppose this happens a lot more than we know.  It is bad feeling to loose one.  I've had that happen a few times in the past but in recent years we've had a dog that so far has found the ones that ran out of sight.  I don't do any archery hunting but it appears a pass through ought to put one down after he runs out of gas. @--0--0117  Hope your buddy can find your deer.

Hate to hear it Bluetoe, what a sinking feeling.  I've had my share of those stories....  Hope your buddy finds him today, best of luck.

Can't say I  have found every deer I've shot at. So I know just how you feel.  I, for one, just hate to lose a deer.

That's sad news , I think we have all had one we could not find . In fact last year there were two other bucks shot on the cousin's farm and they could not find either one , but this spring there were three deer found as bones , I found one of them . Hope your friend finds it .  ##$%#1118

Good effort, great buddy. Did something similar without the challange of the swamp. For my nice buck a few years back, I even saw him running away with the lighted nock stuck in him.

Too bad, hate when that happens to anyone.

What broadhead where you using?

On a compound bow I swear by Magnus Buzz Cut.

On my CB I have been using Rage Crossbow X 2-Blade Broadheads
