Road Kills to date
« on: November 01, 2018, 11:59:09 AM »
Archery is in full swing and crossbow opens this Saturday in the Southern Tier of Western NY.So far between my farmer and I on our frontage we have lost three deer. Two doe and one spike buck.I hate to see that but with the Corn and soy fields which some is cut I can see why. The turkey vultures, coyotes, and skunk, and coon seem to clean them up long before the Highway Dept does .Unless the are submerged in water, they will be there in the spring.

I counted over a dozen road kills on my 150 mile trek to camp last week, mostly doe but a couple of pretty nice bucks. Most farmers around here are just now starting to cut the corn, but with all of the rain and flooded fields the process has been very slow. I have seen several tractors stuck in the fields and awaiting extraction. I think it may not happen to some until the ground freezes.

Last month, there were 2 roadkills within 1/4 mi of each other, on the road to town.  I keep hoping I can spot a fresh one.  Over the years, I have picked up 3 of them within 50 yds of my house.
