Walking through tall grass to deer stand
« on: October 13, 2018, 09:29:06 PM »
The only way in to my deer stand is by walking through a field with high grass.  How show I do this and what cover scent would help?

Spray your boots and legs thoroughly with scent eliminator and try to make your path downwind of any deer trails running through the grass.  Just gotta make the best of it if you don't have the ability to mow it down yourself.

i'm w/ mad. I would mow trails to your stand if possible. I do this at my dad's place. they turn into deer highways

if not, I just keep my clothes in a scent free Rubbermaid w/ some pine or cedar wafers. that will be the only scent you leave behind as you brush past grass

one other thing I do and don't know if I mentioned. I remembered as I was getting ready this weekend. my towel I dry off w/ after I shower dries on a cedar tree and is stored in the same Rubbermaid. it wreaked of cedar as I was drying off. I believe that really gives you an edge.

good luck

I would mow, weedeat, drive a trail down.  Not only do you have to worry about spooking deer, but tall grass and a nice dew makes wet legs and if you're soaking wet when you get to stand you're gonna be in for a miserable wet morning.
Hunting is a way of life: Love it, Teach it, Live it. But most of all.... RESPECT IT and pass it on!

Took a pass

On the weekend does lounging on my back yard in the clear.

Next day, flock of hen turkeys in my back yard went into the woodlot. They hung out there. Driving my John Deere tractor mowing right to the wood lot, yep, they were still there.

Up in my treestand and a small buck and doe hanging around my stand 30-20 yards away.

Too scrawny so I let them walk.

That was Saturday.

Sunday woods were dead silent
