so far this year the cabin pics have been plentiful, but nothing big. so good/bad. rather than sitting around, I decided to go for a walk about. I packed a lunch and some beverages and went for a 6 1/2 hour hike. ##$%#14 I can do this since i'm surrounded by national forest. I hit every oak patch I could find figuring the old boys must be somewhere. the best acorn crop I found was on my place. I found very few rubs and no scrapes yet. it was very muddy and no big tracks @--0--0100

the colors were incredible and are at peak. it was fun to get out, but unsuccessful. I did come out about a mile from where I planned on the way out. OOPS. it was cloudy so I didn't have any reference. compass won't work up there due to all the mineral deposits. gps isn't reliable because of the thick cover. it's a crap shoot, but I enjoy figuring it out. I left at 8 AM so I had all day  if I got lost. @--0--0117

I covered 6-7 miles. no rain Saturday, FINALLY! it was great. days like this are why I love the big woods. I only wish I found some big sign. they must be around somewhere. FYI, my last buck shed his velvet a week ago. very late

What a great way to spend a day...I enjoy that type of scouting too. During my years working at Delta I'd walk 4 to 7 miles a day and was in great shape however no where close to that these days.
