It's a shame Dicks is only impacted by 2%, although in the profit margin game losing 2% of revenue can create a pretty big impact.   The combination of the Pittman/Robertson (guns & ammo) and Dingell-Johnson (fishing/boating gear) excise taxes generate about $1.1 Billion in tax revenues annually.  P/R is roughly a 10% tax, D/J is a little weird but smaller than P/R so for easy math let's just say it also averages 10%.  That means consumers in the outdoor sports arena (that's us by the way) spend at least $11Billion a year on taxable products.  That's $11B in influence to company bottom lines - while it's spread out broadly to many companies, it's not pocket change.  Vote with your wallet boys - sooner or later (I HOPE!) companies will realize some of these silly emotional feel-good PR stunts are not wise from a business standpoint & start acting more rationally.  Wouldn't bug me one bit if Dicks went under.  Remember Under Armour and their silly stunt last year too, denouncing the guy hunting bears with a spear & dropping their sponsorship - they deserve a bit of financial loss for that stunt also.
One of God's greatest gifts to us is
the great outdoors - get out there
and enjoy it!
