I guess today was the day for the fawns to show up
« on: June 26, 2018, 09:06:46 PM »
Have been wondering where the fawns were, prior to today hadn't seen any but then came home tonight and wife & daughter showed me a picture they got of one out near the mailbox.  After supper the daughter went over to a friend's house for a bit and came back with this photo of momma and her triplets.  Sorry it's fuzzy, cell phone photo through a nasty windshield then shrunk makes it pretty grainy.  These little guys are about a mile down the road from the house, literally within shouting distance of my favorite bow stand down at the bottom of the ravine (turn left and roll down the hill and you'll probably stop within bow range).  First triplets in spots that I've seen here in a few years.

I have seen more little fawns laying on the side of the roads this year than I have in a long time. We counted 6 on Sunday on our way home from Michigan, all were in PA the last 65 miles before home. This doesn't count all the other bucks and does, lost count after a dozen or so with one really nice buck on I-80 Ohio turnpike.

i hope your DNR doesn't have a kill on site policy like WI did several years ago. the population was 'too big' and they gave out 5 doe tags per day. that was about the same time the wolves showed up. the herd still hasn't recovered and may never recover
