Very quiet around here
« on: June 22, 2018, 05:29:51 PM »
But I had the opportunity to make a little noise, which caused a dastardly woodchuck to go bang flop.  Not much different than the others I have gotten this year.  50 yd shot, over by the barn.  Was working on my breezeway when I spotted this chuck feeding in the light rain.  I had come up on a woodchuck the day before, no gun, and it quickly dove under the barn.  I figured it would return, just had no idea it would be this soon.  I'm really beginning to like my Axis.  Btw, can you see me in the pic?

It's quiet around here also, I have about a dozen groundhogs that I see daily, but unfortunately the neighbors would have me arrested if I started shooting them in the housing plan. I have reduced the population to zero around camp last year. I have not seen a single one this year, (at camp) and I'm good with that. I will be out with intention of bagging a few in the near future.

I knew it wouldn't be long.  Nice shooting Louie.  That Axis is a tack driver.

Yari, they come over from the neighbor's.  I'm surrounded by 195 acres, mostly wooded. The last couple of years they seem to come from the north side, but on previous years, they were coming in from the south.  I enjoy them coming in, they provide meaningful target practice, and once in a while, a good meal or two.

I only had at my cabin many years ago. I hit him at 98 paces w/ my octagon barrel .22 w/ only his head sticking up. I think the canines take them out

I believe that's the case Yari.  As a kid we had groundhogs all over the place, but never saw yotes.  Now it's the opposite.  I would expect a chuck out away from its den is pretty easy picking for a yote, and I suppose they could dig them out too?
