new dock
« on: June 12, 2018, 09:38:14 AM »
I wanted to build a dock / pier on my pond for easier boat loading and fishing for the kids. I bounced back and forth between a floating dock and a support dock. Because of the flooding, both have pros and cons. I finally decided on a support dock for the stability and have it anchored well enough that I am hoping it will stay submerged when it floods. Time will tell. It took 4 days to build it by myself and I greatly underestimated the weight of the runners. It took some ingenuity but I managed to get er done. The afternoon I finished, I did some fishing to break it in properly and landed this 6 lb bruiser on a top water buzz bait. Overall I am happy and hope to enjoy it for some time.

Beautiful dock, well done HM!  Did that bass go back to the pond or will he be destined to swm in hot oil next?  Nothing beats topwater fishing when they're hungry, what a blast!

Let her go... I love to fish and I love to eat fish but I usually put the big ones back. Heck, I mostly put them all back because I hate cleaning fish...  LOL

I am waiting on that 7 to 8 pounder to mount for the cabin though...

Real nice job HM....I think you made the right choice on your dock. That's a good bass, it such fun catching them on top water. Good old buzz baits are hard to beat this time of year! Congrats.... ^^&&$%GT

You did a fine job on the dock, it didn't take the bass long to find it as a hiding spot.  @--0--0118

heck of a dock and heck of a fish.

so you want it to submerge when it floods? that will take a lot of support. do you get a lot of current? we had a big flood season and folks lost a lot of docks. we get a lot of ice though

no current at all during a flood. its a very slow rise into the pond over many days and then a slow fall. and its high enough off the water line to only get submerged in big floods. the normal flooding we get each year shouldnt touch it. if it does float instead of staying submerged, i have it so that it will hinge at the base and hopefully rise and set in the same place.
