Another bird down at the cousin's - update
« on: May 18, 2018, 09:18:31 PM »
I took another Tom at the cousin's farm this afternoon 20# with 10" beard and 1" spurs . Here are some pictures I'll fill in the rest of the story tomorrow .
Well here's the story , this year I decided to use my old Winchester 1300 which I bought in 1973 and have never taken Turkey hunting because it's only chambered for 2 3/4" shells , I was using Remington's Duplex Magnum shell 4x6 which I picked up about 20 years ago .
I got to the box blind about 1 PM and spooked a single hen when I got there , she returned about a hour later with 2 sand hill cranes and after about 20 minutes started to work the edge of the field near the marsh . She did this for the next 35 minutes . There is a single Tom in this part of the farm that likes to hangout in a area we call the sugar bush , after the hen had been at the edge of the 30 minutes I heard a loud cluck behind me but could not see anything after about 5 minutes I heard another cluck but didn't see any thing then all of a sudden to my left he appeared on his way to that hen , so I lowered the side window which made him raze his head up all the way and at 25 yards the rest is history .
