270WSM build speaks
« on: April 27, 2018, 09:07:22 PM »
Got the build speaking last week with the Bartlien barrel. The target attached is the first target punched after the zeroing process. The distance was 400 yards off rest. Little to no wind, temp 57, 68% humidity, 1020' altitude and 29.90 pressure. The five shot group was very impressive. I think I'll keep this action/barrel combination together as is. Going to order another couple of defiance actions to mate up with the others barrels I have. I must also report that these actions are "THE BOMB" can't recommend them high enough.

Can't see how you could improve on that!

Holy cow that's awesome. Now tell me more. What bullet, powder, velocity, scope and any other info you want to share.

not, I don't mind sharing anything except the actual powder load. I've always hesitated to share the loads I make up for myself because of my habit of pushing things hard. I've always been a light and hot loader. I carry as much energy as heavier pills, usually.

Scope: Schmidt & Bender Police Marksman II 5-25x56mm H59 reticle
Bullet: 140 gr VLD Hunting   G1 BC= 0.504 Meplat & Tail  trimmed actual weight 137.45gr +/-.02gr
Powder: IMR7828SSC (charge weight over max, loaded by density) 104%
Velocity: 3776fps average for 45 rounds

I ran the initial ladder load test with 20 rounds. Had the best results at 3773. Fine tuned loads ran another 10 shot ladder test and averaged 3775. Last 10 shot ladder test was ran with 2 rounds of .010 increasing jump, 5 groups of 2. Found this chamber liked a .040 jump and had a velocity of 3778. Zeroed these rounds at PBR (249 yards) with the 2.25 sightline of scope. Then the resulting group on this target was the next 5 shoots at 400 after calculating the reticle holdover marks.

Dutch - The target you posted was 400 yards? Wow that is some shooting, you don't need a dime...LOL...wholy cow, that is some fine shooting....What is the barrel length and the twist...what about the primers and brass for those loads...Wow, nice shooting...yea I don't think I would mess with it, The H59 is a very busy reticule....but that is a first class Scope on it. I have a used S&B that I bought years ago it is a 3-9X x 40mm simple scope but it is one tough scope...

Be sure to keep a bullet count on it as well..with you need for speed you will need to know that info.....
