Thanks for the wishes of luck and all, but we didn't connect...not a peep from them mean ol'turkey birds...started the day by getting started just as the sun was peeking out...standing in the field leading to our spot I broke out the tried and true Heirloom box call and shook out a series of clucks and purrs...and out of the woods come a gimungus yote...Grandson is trying to cram shells into the little 20ga 870...yote's at near a full run toward us...just as Zay racks one into the chamber the beast pulls up just shy of 60 yards and freezes looking at us like he made a horrible mistake. spins on his heels and hauls tail feathers for parts not yet mapped out...the second yote never came out of the woods (huge solid black bugger) he slid off into the shadows, yipped and barked and then was gone also. That yip set off a resounding response from a mess of other yotes that lasted for nearly an hour...rest of the day we only heard one hen cluck and give us the put-put..without seeing or hearing anything else...

Coming out of the woods the boy says to me "Grampa...I don't have school next week...we can come back out Wed. if that's OK with you"  one of the best days hunting I have had in years..

he sounds like a good boy. congrats

i would love to hunt at my cabin for turkey, but i figure the same thing would happen up there. i'd have a wolf or bear come in. if it came from behind i'd have to assume it would be a turkey until it was too late. no thx

good luck this week

If he doesn't get a tom I'd at least love to see a picture of him smiling over a dead yote!
