Never seen these before!
« on: April 03, 2018, 08:32:55 AM »
I finally figured out what is making these marks, does anyone want to guess?  I have never seen them before as it must be a regional thing.  They are from 6 inches to 2 feet up the tree (primarily persimmons, but on other smaller diameter trees as well).  I live in east central Oklahoma.  Can't wait to hear the guesses.....

If I had to guess it looks knife or hatchet marks? But I do not think that is it. You have me curious.

King Ben,
Back in the day, like 50 years ago, surveyors would mark trees as reference points to a known point or corner.  Usually marks were on large trees.  Are the marks close to property lines or is it just random in the woods? ##$%#1119
If it is a buck doin' that, you're in the right spot. He's goin' to be a good one! --7-8-9

They are not on property lines.  They are in somewhat random areas and some have been used for multiple years.....
