Midway Versus Cabela's/Bass Pro Shop order yesterday
« on: March 01, 2018, 08:58:09 AM »
If you guys remembered I posted a while back that now Cabela's is charging sales tax along with shipping charges for residents here in Tennessee.....

Yesterday, placed an order with Midway for around $150 (including shipping). If I would have gone with Cabela's it would have been $163+ for the same products....That is a lot of money for a guy on a fixed income....so I guess Cabela's is a thing of the past for me.....shucks, darn, really bought a ton of products from them over the years.....take my Cabela's CC out of my wallet and put it with other expired CC that will be shredded soon.....

Amazon charges sales tax, too.

Louie - Yes I know, I have to watch my spending these days and see how charges the 9%+ sales tax that Tennessee has! We do not have an income tax but do have a very high sales tax.....

I am beginning to think Walmart might be an option for none firearms hardware items.....and have it delivered to the store and pick the item up there.....they carry a lot of Vortex and Leupold items, hummm.....

We pay state tax as well as 7% sales tax plus an additional 3% sales tax in some counties for improvement for three years. If I can get free shipping I'll pay the sales tax on Cabela's hunting clothing as Midway has nothing close to it...sometimes a man has got to do what a man has got to do...LOL

Split - I agree with you about Cabela's clothes, they are the best, we talked about this down at the club and all members agree that Cabela's camo clothes are the best on the market by far.....and yes free shipping is something that I look for these days....

Louie - This is true, Amazon does charge state sales tax. Here in TN, Amazon has two fulfillment centers, so they are obligated to pay the tax on local shipped items.....

I guess it just surprised me when I ordered a item from Cabela's for around $50 and the amount charged on my Cabela's CC was around $75...

Being on a fixed income these days, every dime adds up. You have to watch your money and watch and watch.....LOL....

Thanks for your comments......

I guess you guys makes some very good points, some things you just got to belly up and pay both if you want the good stuff. Split Toe makes a good point of free shipping and Cabela's hunting clothes....we sit around at camp to discuss the camo clothing we get and everyone in our club seems to prefer the Cabela's brand over Bass Pro's Redhead brand or any other brand of clothing.....so if I buy any more clothing and Lord knows I have a ton of it, first place I look is at Cabela's. So will have to pay the piper sort of speak when it comes to paying sales tax and shipping....

Will always look for free shipping as well...thanks for the comments....

Flint, quite often the store price is higher than the online price.

Quite a few chains offer free shipping if you pick it up in their store (Home Depot & Wally World are a couple that come to mind) so you can get the on-line prices and dodge shipping expenses (still need to fork over the sales tax of course).  You can generally save a few bucks if you have the time to surf the web & wait for something to be shipped - obviously you don't always have that luxury.
One of God's greatest gifts to us is
the great outdoors - get out there
and enjoy it!
