Iowa therapy
« on: January 31, 2018, 08:02:36 PM »
A little while ago I put out some feelers that I was looking to expand my Winchester Short Mag family. Got a tip and went on the hunt today. I drove to Delhi, Iowa (8 hour round trip) and met a very nice man that is starting to reduce his collection. He told me he’s lost interest in the Winchester Short Magnum family because of scarcity of smaller caliber (223, 243 & 257) ammunition and brass. However he wasn’t disinterested enough to bargain basement price his collection and no optics were included. I paid a fair market price for the additions. Here's the adoptions from today’s “therapy” session.

1) Browning A-Bolt White Gold Medallion Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Edition/ 325 WSM (NIB)

2) Winchester Model 70 Coyote Light Special/ 243 WSSM 24”SS fluted varmint barrel/blued action (47 rounds old)

3) Customized Winchester Model 70 Stalker/ 6.5 WSM 22” SS bull Kreiger Barrel blued action (17 rounds old) + 3 live rounds, 17 once fired cases & 80 new brass cases. I passed on the Kelby KTS carbon fiber stock he had gotten for it, just stayed with the original synthetic. It would have been nice, but the additional $1475 was too steep in my opinion. I can get a HS Precision for 800 later if needed.

As you may have guessed the 6.5 WSM is a necked down 300 WSM (the family patriarch). This round started out as the 6.5 Leopard a wildcat load. Its ballistics are about the same as 264 Win Mag.

Now the Winchester Short Mag descendants are all present (2 - 325’s, 1 - 300, 1 - 7mm, soon to be 3 - 270’s, 1 - 6.5, 1 - 25, 2 - 243’s and 1 - 223 the family runt). Once I get them all dressed up in their Sunday best I’ll take a family reunion photo and post it.

Side note: When I got home this evening I had a UPS delivery waiting in my porch. The defiance Deviant action came for the 270 WSM I'm building. First impression is AWESOME!!! I really like that its made with 416 alloy and the recoil lug and base are one piece. This should cut down on the harmonics, fingers crossed.
