Rut is in full swing in the Florida Panhandle
« on: January 28, 2018, 10:55:33 PM »
Two different set of bucks showed up on one of my cameras last week.  2 spikes go at it and then a six point and a bigger deer with broken tines tie up.  The rut is going strong!
On another camera, I got a picture of the 8 point I killed on the 16th.  The picture is from the day before (15th) at about the same time, just a different location.

Fellers, our general gun season will end February 18 and then a week of primitive weapons, M/L and archery ending the 25th.  We are in Zone D.   Archery and M/L are legal during the regular gun season, there are some purists that stick with the smoke pole or the stick and string all season.

Sounds like you have a couple more weeks of fun in front of you then - go put another one in the freezer & tell us all about it, I expect the rest of us are all done until the fall rolls around.
One of God's greatest gifts to us is
the great outdoors - get out there
and enjoy it!

Gonna' give it a few more tries.  When I was working, most afternoons I was able to be in the woods.  Now that I've retired, I just don't have the same "drive" to be there every day.  Because of work, I really looked forward to the rare morning hunts and now that I can, I don't go very often. @--0--0117  I killed enough deer in the afternoons to know that they walk afternoons as well as mornings.  The last deer I killed, the 8pt in the picture, was around 8am.  I had gotten up early intending to go, to be there before 1st light and all that stuff but it was a little too cool for a Southerner to be out so I went back to sleep.  Woke again a little before 7, put on my coveralls and went to the stand.  Sat there enjoying the beauty of the morning and Bambi comes easin' through the pines.  That was 15 days ago and I've only sat in the woods one time since then.  I love it but just not motivated as I was a few years ago.
