New 9mm Ammo for the little lady
« on: January 22, 2018, 10:51:12 AM »
https://www.hornady.com/ammunition/handgun/9mm-luger-100-gr-ftx-critical-defense-lite#!/

This is for us guys who want their wives to shoot with them a couple of times per year and they are recoil sensitivity...This is their light ammo that has 27% less recoil than the regular/standard ammo. It also has less muzzle velocity and less energy, but it also means less recoil which means more shots down range...this ammo is perfect for the little lady of the house to use if there every was (and hopefully not) a home invasion....

Take a look at it and think about the ammo you are using to teach your wife/girlfriend how to shoot.....

Good round , now that the club built a indoor range should get a real chance to see how they shoot , so far they work great .

My better half struggles with the slide on a semi auto, so I have been working to get her shooting a S&W 686 revolver, and have put together some "mouse fart" loads using Trailboss & cast lead bullets.  Those things are just an absolute pleasure to shoot.  The gun has a 5" barrel and was a custom shop gun with a very nice trigger.  Once she gets a bit more time with it I'll have her try a few +P rounds with some Hornady XTP jacketed hollow points so she has something that would certainly be defense worthy but still not terrible to handle.  I might check out some of those 100gr 9mm though & see how my youngest daughter does with it.  Thanks for the tip.

Mad - I too have a S&W 686....and it would to much for my wife unless she held it with both hands....would it be better is you got her a LCR - the or a smaller frame revolver? Something in the 5 round capacity?? Just asking...I know most wife's have smaller hands than men do and when we buy a pistol for home protection, the little lady is not with us when we buy it....I am speaking from personal experiences! This recoil is part of the problem as well...Hornady and others are making a effort to address this problem....

A more and better honest approach is for you/us guys make it a part of the day experience. I know, when I take my wife to the range, it all part of the day, it generally shopping a Walmart early, then Kroger, then to the range and finally out to eat at our favorite Mexican restaurant.....We need to make her feel like she is part of the plan, in actually we buy one and she never uses it because she is not part of the decision making process. How many of you have every walked into your bedroom and you wife is looking or examining the pistol? Not many I'm sure...how many wife's have wanted to go to the range with you?? LOL...all I'm saying is that we make her a part of plan......

Fully agree Bo, she's gotta be in on it and actively engaged in the decisions or it's just my thing.  Making some progress, slow but sure.
The 686 works pretty well for her as a starting point, she has relatively big hands, but grip strength isn't great (arthritis creeping in).  May get to a small semi auto in the future, we'll just have to see.
