Looking for a scope for the new 6.5CM
« on: January 21, 2018, 01:17:56 PM »
Been looking for a affordable scope for my new 6.5 CM.

I keep hearing about Atlon optics so I looked at them and found this?

https://athlonoptics.com/product/rifle-scope-argos-6-24x50/

I just want something that will get me going out to a few hundred yards.  As I get more proficient I can upgrade to something a little more top shelf but in the meantime I thought this looked like a decent scope.

Any thoughts?

MI - I own some Athlon Binoculars and have been also looking at their scope on Midway sight and Cablea's catalogs that come in. I am a big Vortex fan and have many of their scopes. Athlon, Vortex, Burris, Bushnell, Konus all make good/decent scopes for the money...and since the 6.5 doesn't produce a lot of recoil, you might want to think about going with some of them....

Make sure you get a 30mm tube, makes all the difference in the world...also look at the warranty....make sure that they have a transferable warranty, not a limited lifetime, in other words when you sell it or buy a used one, there is no warranty, you are buying as-is!!! Be sure to go register your scope on the manufactures webpage....

Even with a smaller objective, do not go below 40mm....but do not go above a 50mm. I have a 4.5-14X x 56mm Nightforce SHV, nice scope, but the darn thing is heavy and it is a huge diameter objective at 56mm!!! it is a $1000 scope, ouch...

Need to know more info about your 6.5 CM?? I own a Savage 10BA Stealth and have a early manufacturer Sig Tango 3-12X sitting on top of it...again nice scope, it has a 30mm tube and a 42mm objective....good scope for $750.....

Also another thing to remember is that all the manufacturers mention above (and they are a lot more) all have different lines and models to fit anyone's budget......
Just trying to do my part and help......visit SWFA website for a bunch of scope not even mention here..they carry all lines and models....

Thanks for the link Bo.

I hate scope shopping, the choices are overwhelming.

NI - SWFA is where I go to see all the models from all the manufacturers...as you say the choices are overwhelming....when I make my decision to buy then I will look to Optic Planet, Amazon, Ebay, Midway and Cabela's/Bass Pro.....

I don't like to get real close to an animal, optically speaking....so because your cross-hairs will move from min to max power, I use half power to sight in and shoot at the range. Reason being, is that at half power you are eliminating half your error...think about it, if your point of impact moves 1/4" from min power to scope max power, then setting it at half power will eliminate half your error.....

The biggest scope I own in on my 338 Lapua and have a 4.5-30X x 50mm Bushnell Elite 6500....that is a lot of scope but the rifle itself is a beast...other than that I have a Nightforce SHV 4-14X x 56mm...another monster of a scope....With the 6.5 CM you really don't need that much of a scope, would recommend (depending on your budget) the Athlon or the Vortex under $500......for an unlimited budget would recommend a Leupold, Zeiss, Meopta, Nikon, Swarovski. Take a lot a TRACT scopes as well...I own a pair of Tract Binoculars with are beyond excellent, so their scope for the money, need to be looked at.....

Midway has the 4-12x40  vx-2s on sale for $249. That's a real bargain.

MI - When you get your new scope (Athlon) let us know your initial reaction to the scope - Then after mounting it, taking it to the range to shoot and after a 6 months or so, let us all know how you like it......

Thanks.....

The scope came today , so far I am impressed with it it has flip-up lens covers and looks well built . The turrets are easy to work with ,  this is the first scope that I have with a Parallax side focus my other two have at the 50mm end of the scope , I really like it the way this scope has it , it also has a Illuminated Reticle which will help with low light shots . It mounted without any problems so next is taking it to the range when it warms up up here it's +4 outside right now , more later .  ##$%#1118
