Okay, to finish this up... or as Paul Harvey used to say "the rest of the story"!

I made what I thought to be a fair price offer of 10 grand cash green American. They thought they'd get more at auction. I opened the bid at my original offer amount. I thought this was only fair. Then someone else placed a bid of 15 grand. My thought was good for the sellers they were right. This all occurred 2 days after Christmas. I licked my wounds for a bit and moved on. Well last night I got a call from the sellers, guess what... The buyer still has not paid the auction house so the sale is void. Now the sellers have to pay the commission and listing fees which comes to 3500. They asked me if I'd consider buying the Packard for my original offer. Here comes a teaching moment... I said no but I'd be willing to make them a new offer of 5 grand cash green American. They said they couldn't possibly do that. I reminded them of the old fable "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". My offer will stand for a week then it and I are forever gone.

I'm still hunting for my black beauty...                                            as Harvey said..............            Page 2

You drive a tough bargain Dutch. He should have taken the 5K and thanked you for your generosity.  @--0--0121

Hmmmm . . . . other than the fact that I don't have room to store it and I really don't need another project right now (don't ever tell my wife I admitted that), I'd be hard pressed to pass that one up.  Really a shame that the owner has to take it in the shorts for the deadbeat bidder, but such is life.  Yep, in hindsight he shoulda jumped on your first offer.  Love the car though!

I like the way you do business Dutch. I don't blame you one bit for lowering your offer. You offered them a fair market price and they declined your offer. It was obviously a fair offer or they would not have offered it to you the second time at the same price. I've got a feeling you will probably end up with that car for about $7500. In the end it will make 2 parties happy. Look forward to hearing of your purchase.
