MD report
« on: December 09, 2017, 07:48:17 PM »
The Md rifle season ended today and though I never pulled the trigger I had a great time.  Really cool being able to hunt my own property for the first time and was able to hunt 3 days.  Saw a lot of deer but never pulled the trigger.  Had plenty of opportunity but wasn't really concerned with shooting a deer but figuring out how to hunt it.  Hunted all day today with about 8 inches of snow on the ground and it was a really wet snow.  I set up a ground blind at a predetermined spot but the wet snow had a lot of limbs bent over and I had no shooting lanes but still had a blast.  Muzzleloader starts next saturday so I'll be ready.

Glad you had a great time, even in the snow! I live in western Maryland and didn't even see a buck but also enjoyed the hunt! Only saw 6 does in the time I was out and hunted in some wind chills of 13 and 17 but always enjoy the challenge of the hunt! As you know, we take this week off and start muzzleloader on Saturday.

He in the south we seldom have to opportunity to hunt the snow. We have a long firearm season that starts in mid October and ends Jan 14th. Sounds like an amazing hunt and just being in the woods make for a great outing. It's not always about pulling the trigger, best of luck during your muzzle loader season.

You still had an opportunity to do something that a lot of folks will never have and that's getting out into the great outdoors and enjoy Gods creations, rather than sit or walk the concrete jungle, the manmade creation of gloom. I was out all day yesterday and saw lots of deer and squirrels and only one other hunter besides my brother in law who spent the day with me. You don't need to pull the trigger to have great time hunting, that's just a bonus that you have a chance to take or pass. Good luck with your muzzleloader season.

Well said Gutshot, I don't care if I pull the trigger on a nice deer or not, it's being outside and enjoying stress free beautiful scenery. Don't get me wrong I would love to pull the trigger on a nice buck but in my opinion it's not a requirement for me.

The worst day in the woods still beats the best day at work, and it sounds like you had some pretty good days even though you didn't hang a tag, gotta like it.  Hang in there, I'm sure you'll get the pattern figured out on your place pretty quick.

You guys are right on.  My wife has FTD and needs a care giver during the day and it's my turn at night.  Life is very tough and just being outside in God's beautiful creation is therapy I need very badly.  Often thought of going out and not even take a gun with me. lol

DEH - I spend a lot of time outside without a gun - it's great to hunt, but if I can't, just being outside is the next best thing (away from the concrete that is).
