Finally entering the world of night vision!
« on: August 07, 2017, 07:28:16 AM »
Well, when I get home from vacation I should have a nice package from Midway waiting for me, a new Sightmark Photon digital night vision scope along with a Pulsar IR illuminator.  Have been itching to get something for years but reluctant to spend big money on high end thermal or night vision hardware.  Was talking to an outfitter last weekend at the Illinois Deer Classic, and he was just raving about his Sightmark, so I started doing some research.  Reviews were really positive, and then Midway sent me an ad midweek with the combo for a great price, figured it was meant to be.  Will get you a review after I try it out.  The night vision question is what brought me to TH to begin with.  The attractive features of this one is that it's digital rather than conventional night vision, so can be used day or night, it includes a video output, uses AA batteries, and priced right.  Five franklins got the combo to my door.  Hope to thin the yote pack shortly.
One of God's greatest gifts to us is
the great outdoors - get out there
and enjoy it!

Mad - That is the same night vision scope that I have!!! The Sight Mark is a great value for the money and watched the videos on you tube about setting it up and learning all the functions...I have a different Illuminator but like you I am not going to spend big money on Gen 3 and 4 night vision scopes....thinking that with the Sight Mark and the Illuminator will reach out there as far as I want to shoot...200 yards is my limit on night vision critters....

You will love it once you get it to the range...I put my on a 223 custom Shilen upper and DPMS lower with Timney trigger set at 3 lbs......really shoots good at the range...need to take it a few more times to the range before taking it to the woods with me...Attached is a picture of mine....

Congrats, look forward to bearing how you like it.

I started with a std gen 1 night scope and quickly upgraded to the ATN X-Sight because of the X-Sights ability to function in daylight or night.

Hard to find outdoor ranges open after dark.

Yari - I was too, for about 10 years knowing that it seems like every year they would come out with better night vision equipment at a cheaper cost, finally go off the fence and dove it....only have shot it in the day light hours....

Last visit to the range, a guy next to me ATN X-Sightron 5-20X on his AR10....he needed a brass catcher, because some of his 308 hot brass was hitting me in the back...LOL...I just wait till he shot before I shot...but all in all he said he like the ATN and it was his first trip into Night Vision land....will take it to the range shortly....
