Turkey Camp Visitor
« on: May 15, 2017, 08:34:34 AM »
Well after being at turkey camp by myself for the past two weeks, I had the pleasure of spending the past couple of days in the woods with DLR, we had a great time hunting together and catching up on the past. We only heard one bird, but did see lots of deer. DLR was hoping to see a couple of elk, but it wasn't in the cards while he was there. Maybe next time. I'll be heading back to camp this week and be there until Memorial Day. The down time has been consumed with trout fishing, which has been fairly good with the high waters from all of the rain but this week should be great with no rain in the forecast and temps heading into the 80's.

Sounded like fun despite the lack of gobbles! Enjoy the rest of the time up there and hope you bag the big one!!

thanks for letting me know.  I didn't know if anyone was using the calls I made.   Don't feel too bad, they ignore my calling once in a while, too.  I have two box calls, made both.  They both sound good to me, but I end up using the same one all the time.  Just around noon, I was outside and heard a gobble behind my house.  Ran back in and got my call.  Bird replied a couple of times, then shut up.  The funny thing is that when two cranes started squawking, the tom started gobbling in response.    I needed to get back to work on my master bathroom, so I put the call away.   I got it out to see if I could get the bird to come in.

Mix it up on calls, rhythm, volume, and just the amount of calling you do.  Hard to say what works on any given day, I certainly haven't mastered it yet.  So frustrating when you know they're there but just not responding, persistence will pay off!

Heading back to camp today, we can now hunt all day in PA.  ##$%#11 The temps are to be upwards to 90 for the next few days and no rain in the forecast for a change. Hunting should be a little better and the streams should get down to a fishable level again. Turkey hunting and Trout fishing, what a great time of year to enjoy the great outdoors. I'll catch up with y'all in a week or so.  -0078
