The last week
« on: May 01, 2017, 08:14:42 AM »
This is the last week of turkey season here in KY and its not looking good. I will only be able to hunt a few days, at best, and the birds are way done. I might could sit all day in one spot and maybe catch one walking by but that just isn't in my nature. If they aint gobbling and I cant chase them, I'm not really interested. I heard a couple of birds gobble last week but they were far away and very off property...  Going to try again tomorrow and then maybe this weekend. its hard to stay motivated when they don't gobble....

I certainly understand that it is hard to keep at it when there is no gobbling. Around here (western Maryland) we know where they are but a lot of times they just don't gobble, not even on or off the roost in the morning. I will cold call and then get ready and just wait. Maybe take a blind, a good book, lots of goodies and drinks and wait and see what happens. A theory I prescribe to is that there are no deer or turkeys in my living room. Maybe today is the day I get lucky and they show up, who knows? Hope you hear them gobbling this week!!

Hunted yesterday morning, heard one gobble way far away and he only gobbled twice. way off property. Hunted until 130 PM and then I heard something... I heard my pond calling my name.. So I answered the call and me and the wife went fishing and had a few cold ones... great time  @--0--0120

I may go again Sunday, for the last day... not much hope but who knows... if nothing else, the pond will be calling...

Well. I'm done. 2nd year in a row I've eaten both my turkey tags...  I know the early spring has hurt us for 2 years in a row but we have realized that turkeys really don't use our property in the spring. They are here in the fall and winter but not spring. We are going to look for some additional ground to hunt turkeys on.

We have from today until Memorial Day, which is our last day to make it happen, I have only missed one day so far. The good news is starting today we in PA can now hunt all day. Should be interesting. I will be back after them on Wednesday when I get back to camp.
