I love the Winchester Longbeard load! The 3-1/2" 6 shot was best out on my setup but the 3" load wasn't far off. This year I finally got my hands on several boxes of the 20ga 6 shot loads so my plan is to see how it shoots from the boys turkey guns and also set up my Beretta 20ga with it.

I tried the 3 1/2 " loads one year. Enough said.

I like the Longbeards in 3in. I do not like the kick on the 3.5's so if I need a 3.5 in load I'll shoot my 10ga Ithaca!!

I use the 3.5" #5 shot. When I'm patterning a gun the 3.5" will get you attention but when shooting a gobbler I don't even notice the recoil. The Kick's gobblin thunder turkey choke helps reduce the recoil. I'm a big fan of that choke.

Well put ;) While hunting I never feel the recoil but when patterning, those 3.5 knock the snot out of me. That's why I use the Lead Sled ;D I used the Kick's for year but since the Longbeard XR came out, I gave the Carlson choke a try. Kicks are now in the case.

The year I shot my turkey with the 835 using 3.5 in shells I did feel the recoil, something I have never really noticed shooting at game.

I still use the 835 but have gone back to 3" shells.

Still having the best patterns (at 40 yds at least) with 3" #6 Hevi Shot and a standard full choke Remchoke tube in my 11-87.  Tried #5 and tried Longbeard, and the old copper plated loads, but Hevi-Shot for me keeps coming out on top.  Have an Undertaker extended tube (X-full) but Hevi Shot seems to do better in the Full.  Your Mileage May Vary of course

@--0--0137 I'm a firm believer that every gun shoots different and why trying different loads and chokes are important.

I don't know what it is about the 835 but your so right with the 3.5" load it's just a brute. Much less recoil with the 3" my Remington 870 Supermag has nowhere near the recoil of the 835.
