Double Success
« on: April 19, 2017, 05:13:24 PM »
My best friend and I went out yesterday morning on opening day here in Maryland. We didn't hear anything so Rodney decides to go for a short walk and do some calling to locate some birds. He comes back with a quick shuffle and said there were two gobblers in the next hollow.  He called and they gobbled back and seemed like they might be getting closer. He calls again and they are in the exact spot he called from on top of the ridge when he went to locate some. We begin to see them coming down from the ridge through the brush and trees. They start going to our left so we have to close up the windows in the blind in front of us and open the back ones. They get within around 30 yards and hang up. Rodney starts using his mouth call and slate call at the same time and they get fired up and start coming. Rodney tell me to get ready and I will shoot first and as soon as I do, he will. I have been shaking so bad and my heart was ready to pound out of my chest. (turkey fever which I never had before!) He thought I was going to have a heart attack. All of a sudden we see four mature gobblers coming straight in to the decoys. Rodney gave me the green light for the first in line and took the shot and he dropped. A split second later he shoots and number three in line drops. We kidded earlier how nice it would be for us to get a double but never thought it would happen. What a great morning. I finally settled down but I was a wreck! To get a double with your best friend made it extra special!

Yep, Yari summed it up quite well.  Congrats BC - great story on both of your hunts, may they all be just half that exciting in the future!
