turkeys 1 yari 0
« on: April 19, 2017, 02:58:05 PM »
it was a fun morning. started w/ doe and fawn blowing past. i figured something was after them. sure enough, 3-4 minutes later 2 yotes. had i brought more shells, i would have dumped both of them w/ my 10 gauge. 30 minutes later a buck fawn came in to the clover. he liked the decoys and licked both heads. naturally i forgot the cam. 30 minutes later a hen fed to me. she got spooky and i looked behind her. here came the 5 stooges(jakes) she wanted nothing of them. they hung around for an hour. 2 started fanning out and walked in the woods. i figured there must be a hen. sure enough 10 minutes later she came out and all 5 went to full strut and went to her. it was like college all over again. 150 yards behind her came bubba at full strut. he chased the young ens around for 3-4 minutes. every time he was in range, one of the jakes was in the way. he finally went back to find his hen. he was a stud. i only shot one w/ a 12+ inch beard and he looked to be in that neighborhood. it was good to get out again. fun morning

big rain and wind for tomorrow. i'll probably skip and go again friday. i'll keep you posted on the scoreboard

Sounds like a great morning Yari even if you didn't get to smoke one.  A picture of that buck licking on the decoys would be priceless too.

it was a perfect morning. 28 degrees and sunny. i was surrounded by hens and toms talking. not a single one came in though. the set was perfect. i figured it was all over. go figure

i did have a 2 and 3 year old pair of bucks that liked my decoys. they hung around for 30 minutes. then a doe and 2 fawns an hour later

i can hunt tomorrow and then my season is probably over.
